What is the best way to see the historic site?

Our Historic Day Tours are a great place to start to learn about Nevada State Prison from its earliest history as Eagle Valley Ranch, through 150 years of operation as Nevada State Prison. Please note, the subject matter may not be suitable for children under 12 and sensitive persons. Part of the tour includes a visit to the execution chamber.

We also recommend booking an evening Ghost Walk. Our Ghost Walks are designed for people that would like to know a little more about the Paranormal activity at the historic Nevada State Prison site. Think of it as an 'Intro', or 'Paranormal 101'. If the Ghost Walk piques your interest and you want to go further, ask your guide about our Paranormal Investigation offerings. Note, this is not a haunted house but a walk in the dark and stories of deaths and paranormal activity.

How do I buy tickets?

How much do tickets cost?

When purchasing through our online box office, historic day tours are $20 per person and ghost walks are $50 per person. Private tours start at $25 per person and overnight paranormal investigations start at $125 per person (minimum of $500 per event booking).

Nevada State Prison Preservation Society members always receive free admission to the Museum & Gift Shop on days that the facility is open for tours, discounts on merchandise, and early access to select events.

Do you offer group rates?

We do not offer group discounts, however, we regularly host private tours for groups and organizations. Tickets for private tours start at $25 per person. Contact us to discuss: info@nevadastateprison.org.

Do you offer any special discounts?

We do not offer discounts for individual tours, but we do offer discounted memberships for Students, Seniors (60+) and Active Military.

Can I cancel or reschedule my visit once I have tickets?

We do not offer refunds and no changes can be made once tickets have been purchased.

How is my admission money spent? Where does it go?

Nevada State Prison Preservation Society is a charitable nonprofit organization as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Proceeds benefit the preservation and interpretation of this National Historic Landmark for present and future generations. Thank you for your support!

The historic site is accessed off of E. 5th Street in Carson City, NV.

Where can I park?

Parking is free and easily available right at the entrance to Nevada State Prison, at 3301 Warm Springs Court, Carson City, NV 89701.

You should, of course, take all the typical safety precautions, including locking your car and not leaving valuables in clear view inside the vehicle.

When should I arrive for my tour?

Plan your trip to arrive in our free parking area no more than 20 minutes before the time on your ticket. Proceed to the gate for check-in. All members of your party should remain together at all times.

What should I know before booking a Historic Day Tour?

Historic Day Tours last about 90 minutes. Be prepared to walk about a half mile and climb about 60 steps.
We do have an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) option available. Please contact us (info@nevadastateprison.org) to let us know your requirements.

Due to the uneven pavement and site conditions, closed-toed shoes are required. Please bring water, sunscreen, and of course your camera for photo ops. Nevada State Prison is a tobacco & vaping-free property.

Your tour will conclude in our museum and gift shop. NSP merchandise and memberships will be available for purchase.

To comply with State of Nevada regulations, we must have a signed Waiver of Liability for each visitor unless they are a current employee of the State of Nevada. Parents or legal guardians must sign one for their minor children. PLEASE BRING THIS FORM WITH YOU.

What should I know before booking a Ghost Walk?

Each Ghost Walk experience will feature a knowledgeable guide from our Paranormal team.  Visitors should be prepared to walk about a half mile and climb about 60 steps.

The Nevada State Prison Historic Site is no longer an active prison. It closed in 2012. However, it is still Nevada state property, administered by the department of Corrections, so we must have all visitors follow the following rules (*Customers may be asked to leave if they do not comply):
- NO BLUE JEANS
- Closed Toed shoes must be worn - the terrain is uneven
- No weapons, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs are permitted on the property
- No minors under the age of 15. Anyone under this age will be turned away with NO REFUND.

Your ticket purchase is an agreement that all members of your group will follow these rules. Any visitor that does not, will be asked to leave, and no refund will be issued.

We ask that all visitors wear comfortable clothing.
A FLASHLIGHT IS REQUIRED!

Please consider bringing water. It may be warm, even after dark.

Please plan your trip to arrive in our free parking area by 6:30 pm. This allows time for you and your party to check-in and use the restroom before the experience starts.

There will be time before your event to check out our historical museum and gift shop where NSP merchandise and memberships are available for purchase.

Can I take pictures?

Yes! So long as you stay within the parameters of the guided tours, we do not limit personal photography of ticketed visitors.

The use of video-capable drones at Nevada State Prison has recently been approved by the Department of Corrections and our Board of Directors. Inquire at info@nevadastateprison.org.

Is there anything I am not allowed to bring inside?

If you have to ask, it’s best that you leave it at home. We are dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and educational experience for every visitor.

The Nevada State Prison property is owned by the Nevada Department of Corrections. Weapons of any kind, pepper spray, pocketknives, and any other potentially dangerous objects are not permitted inside the historic site.

Outside alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Nevada State Prison is a tobacco & vaping-free property.

Service animals may be permitted with prior approval. Contact info@nevadastateprison.org with your request prior to arrival.

Is Nevada State Prison appropriate for kids?

The Nevada State Prison Preservation Society does not have any restrictions on children, however, children under the age of 12 are not recommended due to the sensitive nature and adult content of our tours.

Tours include a visit to the Execution Chamber. We also caution that the facility is a National Historic Site with areas that are very old and can pose safety hazards to unattended children.

Is Nevada State Prison ADA Accessible?

Nevada State Prison is a National Historic Site and portions of the facility are very old. There are no elevators.

Our staff and volunteers are committed to assisting all guests to the best of our ability and within the constraints of this historic site.

We do have an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) option available for our Historic Day Tours and accommodations can be made for our Paranormal operations and other special events.
