The Nevada State Prison Preservation Society is proud to have had a depiction of the historic prison fashioned into a Carson City Christmas ornament in 2015. A limited supply of these collectible ornaments are for sale at the Carson City Chamber of Commerce office for $15 each.

by Glen Whorton By now you have heard that a movie was filmed at Nevada State Prison. This was a 10-week endeavor involving thousands of hours of Nevada State Prison Preservation Society volunteer time. Actually, this movie would not have been possible without the involvement of NSPPS. Coordination of this effort was supervised by NSPPS Vice President Robin Bates. It all started in August with the development of a location agreement by NSPPS legal counsel, Brian Hutchins. Nevada State Prison will be setting for movie
NSP is setting for movie In late July the Society was approached by filmmakers interested in using the prison as the location for their movie. The Nevada Department of Corrections asked the Society to supervise this project and provided us with a letter of authorization. What followed was five weeks of hard work by our attorney, Brian Hutchins, resulting in a location agreement between the filmmakers and the Society. ’48 Hours’ uses prison as backdrop
The CBS news program “48 Hours” used the Nevada State Prison as a backdrop for a story airing on September 30, 2017, at 9 p.m. The filming was authorized by the Nevada Department of Corrections and took place yesterday, Aug. 15. Put this on your calendar! Some of the professional photography from this shoot will be donated to the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society. Another month of slow but steady progress
by Glen Whorton This has been another month of slow but steady progress. The John Ben Snow Memorial Trust grant has made it possible to begin work on preparing the prison for tours. There are three projects that we know are going to be needed, even though the Code Analysis is not complete. We are going to need handrails for the walkway from the visiting room to the cellhouse. There will be a requirement for a handicap ramp at the entrance to the cellhouse. Lastly we want to open the tier between A Block and B Block of the cellhouse. … Read More
